Notifiable non-licensed asbestos work must be carried out under strict controls to prevent fibre release and ensure safety. Certain types of non-licensed work fall under the notifiable category and must be reported to the relevant enforcing authority before work begins.

Notifiable licensed asbestos removal involves higher-risk, friable materials such as sprayed coatings, loose-fill insulation, and asbestos insulation board (AIB). Due to the elevated health and safety risks, a 14-day statutory notification to the enforcing authority is legally required prior to commencement of work.

Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are classified as hazardous waste and must be disposed of in specialised landfills designed to handle such materials.

Disposal through general collections or general waste facilities / providers is strictly prohibited. SCI provides a nationwide asbestos waste collection service, frequently utilised for situations such as fly-tipping incidents, contaminated skips, and post-refurbishment clearance.
